As we approach Independence Day, Paulozzi LPA wants to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and festive July 4th. Here are 6 key tips to keep in mind:

1. Protect Your Pets Many dogs are frightened by fireworks.

Make sure your pet has proper ID tags and create a safe, comfortable indoor space for them during fireworks displays.

2. Supervise Children Closely

Keep a watchful eye on kids, especially around fireworks and sparklers. Sparklers can reach extremely high temperatures and pose burn risks. For all-day events, consider having adults take shifts supervising children.

3. Handle Food Safely

Summer heat accelerates bacterial growth. Be mindful of how long food sits out, especially in the “danger zone” of 40°F to 140°F. When in doubt, it’s best to discard food that may have spoiled.

4. Stay Hydrated and Sun-Safe

If celebrating outdoors, drink plenty of water, reapply sunscreen every two hours, seek shade when possible, and wear protective clothing to prevent sunburn and heat-related illnesses.

5. Practice Fireworks Safety

Fireworks can be beautiful but also dangerous if not handled properly. Always follow local laws regarding fireworks and never allow young children to handle them. Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby in case of fire, and light fireworks one at a time, maintaining a safe distance.

6. Designate a Sober Driver

Celebrations often involve alcohol, so it’s vital to plan ahead for safe transportation. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or arrange for alternate transportation to ensure everyone gets home safely. The last thing you want is to get a DUI, or create a DUI car accident when it could have been easily avoided.

At Paulozzi LPA, we hope these tips help you and your loved ones have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day celebration. If you do experience any personal injuries during your holiday activities, don’t hesitate to contact our experienced Ohio legal team for assistance.
