Man On Drugs Accused Of Causing Serious Crash

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is incredibly dangerous, and impaired driving incidents lead to a high percentage of total traffic fatalities in Ohio each year. Here, the Cleveland car accident attorneys at Paulozzi LPA Injury Lawyers want to discuss a recent fatal crash involving a driver who was high on PCP at the time of the incident. Our team works diligently to help victims of car accidents in Cleveland secure the compensation they deserve for what happened.

What Is Happening With This Local Car Accident Case?

Police say that Lennard Duncan was high on PCP when he slammed his vehicle into another car, killing one woman and injuring several others in November of 2019. Police also say that Duncan was not even legally allowed to drive. When the incident occurred, his license was suspended for life after he had previously pleaded guilty to causing a crash that killed a 19-year-old in 2010. The November crash took the life of Traci Simmons. The 52-year-old woman was killed when a vehicle driven by Duncan slammed into her car at a high rate of speed on East 55th and Broadway. It has taken months for police to thoroughly investigate this case, and now Duncan faces charges of aggravated manslaughter two DUI charges.

These Incidents Can Be Devastating

During the latest reporting year in Ohio, statistics from the state Department of Transportation show that there were more than 300,000 vehicle crashes. Out of these incidents, there were 1,179 fatalities, and more than 75,000 injury crashes. During that same year, there were nearly 12,000 total crashes involving alcohol in the state. Out of those reported incidents, there were 314 fatalities and 6,866 injuries. Drug and alcohol impairment is the cause of a high percentage of fatal crashes in Ohio. These incidents often occur at high rates of speed and it is not uncommon for our Cleveland car accident attorneys to help clients who have sustained the following:

  • Broken and dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations
  • Internal organ damage
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Concussions
  • Internal bleeding
  • Spinal cord injuries

Each of these injuries requires immediate medical assistance, and there are times when victims need extended care in order to make a full recovery. In some cases, DUI accident victims are permanently disabled.
