Giving back locally is important to our firm, and this season a few members of Paulozzi, Alkire & Condeni Personal Injury Lawyers had the chance to do that in a meaningful way. We visited the Northeast Ohio SPCA No Kill Pet Shelter in Parma, Ohio to deliver donations from our Thanksgiving drive and spend time with the animals and staff. As Cleveland personal injury lawyers serving clients across Ohio, we spend our days helping people through difficult situations, and we believe supporting organizations that protect vulnerable lives is part of that same commitment. This visit was a reminder of how much good happens when a community shows up.
Our shelter day started weeks earlier in our offices. Paulozzi, Alkire & Condeni Personal Injury Lawyers hosted a Thanksgiving donation drive after the Northeast Ohio SPCA shared a list of their most urgent needs. The response from coworkers, friends, and community partners across Northeast Ohio was immediate and generous. Boxes of supplies showed up daily. People dropped off food, toys, cleaning items, towels, and bedding. Every contribution felt personal, because shelter work is personal, and people in Cleveland, Parma, Akron, Lorain, and beyond understand that.
By the time the drive wrapped up, we had enough to fill two vans. We also collected a monetary donation so the shelter could put funds toward veterinary costs, facility needs, and the less visible essentials that keep a no kill shelter running. It was a reminder that community service in Ohio often looks like a hundred small acts of care adding up to something huge.
When our team pulled up to the Parma location on Brookpark Road, it was clear right away that the shelter was full. You could feel the pace of the day the moment you walked through the doors. There were so many rescue animals, including plenty of puppies and kittens waiting for adoption. Some dogs stood at the gates wagging their whole bodies, while others watched quietly until they were ready to come closer. The cats were a mix of sleepy, playful, and curious, stacked in cozy little piles or stretching out to greet whoever stopped by.
One of the highlights of the visit was meeting Executive Director Jeffrey Kocian. Jeffrey is also an attorney, and talking with him felt like meeting someone who understands advocacy from the inside out. He took time to walk with us, explain the shelter’s day to day realities, and share what the holiday season means for intake and adoptions. We were honored to present him with a check along with the supplies because supporting this mission means supporting the people leading it.
Spending time inside the Northeast Ohio SPCA No Kill Shelter gave us a deeper understanding of what no kill rescue work requires. It is not only about providing a safe place to sleep. It is medical care, training, socialization, enrichment, cleaning, feeding, and steady reassurance for animals who have been through stress and uncertainty.
What stood out most was the staff and volunteers. Even with every kennel full, they moved with calm focus. They knew each animal’s temperament, needs, and progress. We watched them pause to comfort a nervous dog, gently coax a shy cat forward, and keep routines steady for pets who rely on predictability. The compassion was real and constant. It reminded us why shelters like this matter so much to Northeast Ohio communities, from Cleveland and Toledo to Columbus and Cincinnati.
After unloading the vans, our team spent time with the animals. There were plenty of cuddles, playtime, and quiet moments that felt just as important as the donations. Some puppies melted into our arms the second they were held. Others wanted to bounce around and show off their personalities. A few of the cats purred instantly when someone sat beside them, leaning in like they had been waiting for a gentle touch all day.
These moments stick with you because they are simple and sincere. They are also a reminder that shelter pets are not just waiting. They are hoping. Every extra comfort, every donated item, and every person who walks through those doors helps keep that hope alive.
Not long after our visit, the Northeast Ohio SPCA posted photos of our staff with rescue animals on their social media. They later told us that nearly every puppy featured has been adopted. That outcome says a lot about what community visibility can do. Donations help shelters operate, but awareness helps animals find homes. A single post can connect the right pet with the right family at the right time, and that is a win that ripples through the whole community.
As Cleveland personal injury lawyers, we understand the ripple effect of support. We see it when an accident victim gets the medical care they need, the financial relief they deserve, and the chance to rebuild. The same kind of ripple happens here, just in a different form. A shelter animal gets a second chance, a family finds a new companion, and the community becomes more humane in the process.
At Paulozzi, Alkire & Condeni Personal Injury Lawyers, our work is built around protecting people who have been hurt through no fault of their own. Supporting a no kill shelter aligns with the same core belief: vulnerable lives should not be left without protection. Whether someone is injured in Akron, Lorain, Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo, Cincinnati, or anywhere else across Ohio, or whether an animal needs safety and a future, the answer should never be indifference. It should be a community. Community care is a year round commitment, and we are proud to be part of it.
