If you are a road construction worker, you already know you are in one of Ohio’s most dangerous careers.  Rearranging the landscape for growing towns and cities can be very rewarding. However, there are so many hazards on the job. Unstable soil toppling in on a freshly dug ditch, equipment failures, and negligent coworkers can cost you your life. The last thing a road construction worker should have to worry about is negligent drivers ignoring the safety signs and striking you when you are doing your job.  Unfortunately, this happens all too often. Your day is spent in the freezing cold, and a motorist decides to speed impatiently through the work zone.

Now you’re lying in the middle of the road as your crew rally help. Will you make it home to your family?  Is this the end of your career?

If you or someone you know has been injured in a car accident or pedestrian accident, you need a personal injury lawyer in Cleveland, Ohio. The attorneys at Paulozzi LPA Injury Lawyers are highly sought. They understand that the negligence of others can cost people their livelihoods and their lives.

Tragic Accident Before Christmas

Road construction was underway early in the morning in Coventry Township. While the construction crew was setting up their work-zone, a 52-year-old worker directed traffic to keep his crew and the roads safe. However, tragedy struck when a negligent driver hit him.

The Summit Country Police are currently investigating the incident. At this time, drugs, alcohol, and speed are not considered factors in the accident. The worker, whose name has not been released, was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and severe head trauma.

Road Construction is One of The Most Dangerous Jobs in Ohio

Road construction is known for its workplace hazards. Between the orange cones, light-reflecting vests, and numerous signs, workers do all they can to warn drivers that they’re here. Still, an estimated 123 road construction workers die every year.

  • In the last reporting year, work zone fatalities doubled from the previous year.
  • Negligence is one of the largest contributors to work zone deaths.
    • According to the ODOT, most accidents happen because drivers lose patience and speed through work zones
    • Drivers tailgate each other
    • Drivers don’t pay attention to construction workers, equipment, and flaggers.
