When we lose a loved one to someone’s negligence, our world is devastated. Amidst the anger, trauma, and grief, we have questions. How could something like this happen? Who is responsible?

How can we make sure this doesn’t happen to someone else’s father, mother, daughter, or son?

The answer is money. You make it too costly for them to make a mistake again. Make sure you’re not ignored, and your loved one’s death is not ignored. Make sure they’re remembered.

The attorneys at Paulozzi LPA Injury Lawyers understand that so many deaths are preventable if the right person had been attentive. Don’t let your loved one be another statistic. Be too costly to be ignored.

If you or someone you love has suffered a loss due to someone’s negligence, you need a wrongful death attorney in Cleveland, Ohio. You need Paulozzi LPA Injury Lawyers.

A Man Lost His Son. Now He Wants Answers

Lake County jail is accused of withholding the medication and health equipment that cost Randy Wiertella his life. His father has brought a wrongful death suit in Cleveland against the jail.

Randy was stopped for speeding and having a loud muffler in December. According to court records, the officers found a gun in his car. Randy was arrested for “improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.”

Randy duly informed the officers at the jail about his medical conditions. He suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, diabetes, anxiety, depression, and sleep apnea. The latter required a CPAP machine for Randy to breathe. Randy also needed medication. Despite continuously asking for his medication and CPAP machine, jail officers never complied, costing Randy his life. He was the father of three and only 44 years old.

The wrongful death suit alleges the jail officers acted “with deliberate indifference to the serious medical needs of (the) individuals in custody.”

What Are the Medical Rights of Inmates in Ohio?

The Eighth Amendment demands that people in jail receive adequate medical care and the basic needs of food, water, and shelter. However, across the country, we see a rise in inmates’ death, whose safety has become as lost and ignored in our judicial system as the penny we lost on the couch. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics,

  • In the last reporting year, people incarcerated have increased by 500% during the previous 40 years.
  • Inmate deaths have increased 3% from the previous year
  • State prisons have seen a higher mortality rate since data collection began in 2001

Why is this happening? Why are our citizens being ignored? Why is our constitution being ignored?
